Abhijeet Sawant Becomes A Shiv Sainik

The first winner of TV reality show Indian Idol, Abhijeet Sawant joins Shiv Sena political party on Saturday to attract the younger generation to join the party.

After trying his hand in acting and dancing, seems like Abhijeet is trying his political mind as well. He officially becomes a Shiv Sainik at a function arranged on Saturday at Sena Bhavan. Party executive president Uddhav Thackeray was present at the event. Talking about his participation to the party, Abhijeet said, "I am a born Maharashtrian so it is natural that I join the Shiv Sena."

Welcoming Sawant to party, Thackeray said, "Sawant is a well-known youth icon and the party would utilise his talents well".

However there is no idea that if Abhijeet would be offered any electoral role. But the singer closely worked with the youth of India for last four year and his popularity might benefit the party to gain votes.

Abhijeet said, "I can relate to them very comfortably and the Shiv Sena offers me the right platform to do something for the youth."

When questioned by media people, Abhijeet denied that he had given some electoral role especially when Maharashtra assembly elections are about to come. Born in Dalit family of Mumbai, Abhijeet Sawant claim to fame when he turned out as winner at Sony TV's reality TV show Indian Idol in 2005. After winning the title, Abhijeet lent his voice for Bollywood movies as well as came up with his solo albums named Apaka Abhijeet Sawant and Junoon. Recently he did his acting debut with film Lottery, for which he also lend his voice. Abhijeet get married to his childhood sweetheart and neighbor, Shilpa Edvankar in 2007.
